Bordeaux. June 21

This morning we woke up after a pretty great sleep in our lovely, quiet apartment. After breakfast we went to catch the tram into town, but we figured out by the many confused and frustrated faces around us, that they weren’t working today. It was actually a blessing though, because we had a lovely walk into town.

We pretty much spent the day doing this, as because it was a Sunday, everything, such as galleries and cathedrals, were shut. Walking is our fave anyway (apart from bread and gelato) , if you haven’t figured it out yet, and we were actually very pleased to not feel like we had to see things.

But why no open ice cream?

More casual Roman ruins

We passed a very small market and got a baguette, a slab of cheese with chilli (cheese and chilli are also faves along with bread and gelato), and a punnet of strawberries. We took these down to the river and had a picnic under the trees and surrounded by dirt and cigarette butts. Not being sour about this because our picnic was more positive than any negatives because it was our favourite things.

We walked along the river for a bit, past the reflecting pools and grand riverside buildings, and then turned around and went the other way and ended in another food market. We didn’t get more food. AMAZING! We did get super sweaty though and walked around the small streets, cringing from the sun.

We made it back to our apartment without melting into puddles, and got the makings for dinner. We ate while watching many, many House episodes, which made Elise very confused because she has no idea what the show is about. But at least it was in English!
