Lyon to Paris. June 28 (Nicky's birthday!)

Journeying again, this time a quick one to Paris. We basically just slept in in the morning and had a loungey breakfast in bed, eating many things like yoghurt, toasted cheese and fruit, savouring a lay in. Of course we watched our new addiction OITNB as well. We then boarded our train to Paris. Also it was very hot. The beginning of a really fun heatwave. Prepare for many posts coming up of mainly hot weather complaints, as us, and half of Europe, begin to melt of extreme heat, whilst all our Australian pals begin to freeze in their own extreme weather conditions.

Anyway, we got to Paris and tried to figure out the metro so we could get to our place in the 13th arrondissement. For those who don't know, this is kinda South East of central Paris, and isn't an ideal location, but we managed and I mean the plus for us is that it's the Asian district so we could go crazy with food. So we got on the metro, going on one line to a stop that was already about a 1.4km walk to our place. Sadly, as always the case in Paris, the metro was cancelled one stop before our stop. We basically had no idea what was happening and were even more confused when an official at the station seemed to tell us to wait for another, when really we were being told to walk because there are no other trains. So now we had a 2.5km walk. In the heat. With all our luggage. 30+kg distributed on our backs, fronts, shoulders and being dragged. Yay. Also we were glued to google maps because we actually had no idea where to go.

The only and best positive to come out of this was seeing maybe a hundred rollerbladers coming down the road, in what seemed like an organised rollerblading event? We were so confused where they were all coming from and their purpose but were enjoying it A LOT. It almost, almost, made that walk worth it. Almost. We also both decided that, to get through the walk we needed fuel in the form of a mcflurry, so we made a pit stop at a McDonald's to refuel. At this point we also messaged our airbnb host, apologising for our lateness, claiming "train difficulties making us a little late", whilst enjoying our ice cream.

We FINALLY got to our studio, which was thankfully on the ground floor. It's actually really nice, very small but pretty modern and again we scored a mezzanine bed. Ash had to leave in a hurry because her friend Binuri was also in Paris so they could catch up for one night!

On Ash's way to meet Binuri she encountered some more metro fun, having her intended line cancelled as well, due to mysterious backpack, which was just that, a backpack. However, Ash got to the meeting point only an hour late. Good one. In summation, Ash had dinner with Binuri at a really nice Italian restaurant and then got some really good selfies with the Eiffel Tower together.

She got home later to be greeted by Elise and her parents faces on the computer (Skype). And also half of another gigantic meringue that Elise had bought for alone time tasty. Turns out we are too much of a snack team, and she still needed Ash to share.

Lots of love, A&E
