Lisbon to Madrid. June 15

We woke up this morning to a lovely day, and tried to make the most of our morning before our flight to Madrid. We went our usual way out of our apartment to the central area of Lisbon in search of a bakery or cafe to get some breakfast and Ash really needed one last Portuguese tart before she left Portugal. We found a pretty busy looking bakery/cafe and took a seat. Ash got her tart and Elise got a chocolate croissant and we both shared this delicious thick cut toast with lashings of butter. We're sure you all needed those details of our breakfast but a good breakfast requires description. We then wandered a bit more through this part of the city then back to our place to do a final pack and catch the bus down to the train station, to then catch two trains to the airport.

That's our roof terrace!

Arriving at the airport we were super early, mainly because the actual check in wasn't open until the very last minute. Finally boarding the plane for Madrid, Elise had a bit of a run in with a business class passenger, both having a stand off over who was pushing who. By the way, Elise never actually pushed anyone, the lady shoved her bag away, and she pulled it back into place. She then started pushing Elise down the stairs and Elise obviously was going to stand her ground. Duh. Ash just watched and laughed a lot at the situation. It culminated in Elise being fake coughed on and the lady going to her business seat, which was exactly the same as ours but there was a curtain separating the two classes. Classy lady.

We got to Madrid and caught the airport express bus to a main square nearish to our new apartment. We then walked for about 15 minutes, and hauled our bags up some lovely flights of stairs (recurring pattern in our lives now, we are always on the top floor of apartment buildings). This apartment was not nearly a 10 like our previous but it was in a really good area, and our host told us a restaurant that has really good tapas. After unpacking/relaxing we headed out at around 9pm to the suggested restaurant. It was in this really weird shopping street and we were confused if we were actually being lead to a proper place or not. We finally found it and it was the best ever. We ordered firstly, a jug of sangria. Amazing. Then many tapas. Croquettes, risotto, fried artichokes, these beef and rice things and an amazing guacamole salad. IT WAS INCREDIBLEEEEEEEE. Anyway, we think you understand how we feel about food and this was no exception.

ALL THE SANGRIA

Jamon and artichokes

Bufala, tomatos and guacamole salad

Surprise dish of cured beef and rice aka sushi. I think this was a happy accident at our table
Risotto

We left at 11pm ish and went straight to bed to get ready for our only day in Madrid, and all we had to pack into it!

Much love A&E
