Today we left our London hotel for the airport and got there
pretty smoothly. Unfortunately our plane was majorly delayed by about an hour,
but eventually we were on our way to Madrid. We had a pretty quick stop over
there, but with plenty of time to check in for our second flight and get a bite
to eat. We got on our small Royal Air Moroc plane, and spent about half an our
dying of heat until we started to taxi. The flight wasn’t smooth but we landed
in Casablanca safely and got out of customs quickly. Unfortunately, that’s when
we realised that we had absolutely no idea about Morocco and it took us 15
minutes just to find the ATM. The taxi drive into our hotel was interesting,
but I wouldn’t say we were exactly impressed. Casablanca appeared to be lacking
some cultural charm and interest, and looked a little run down and rough.
At the hotel, we were given out room keys and went upstairs
to settle in, however we couldn't even unlock our door and after ages had to go ask for help. Within the first hour we had been down to ask the staff at
reception questions 5 times, once to ask about where to find food, 4 more to
ask how to use the air conditioning. With
our bathroom shelf literally falling off the wall and smashing into hundreds of
tiny shards onto the floor, and our aircon never turning on, we decided we had
best try and find something to eat, despite it being almost 11pm.
This probably wasn’t the best idea, as although we had been
warned about the cat calls of locals, we definitely weren’t prepared enough for
it. The pavements are pretty ruined and Elise had a good trip, we were yelled
at by men and boys and some even put their arms out to trap us. We decided to
go full tourist and head for McDonalds. We got some food after struggling with
the language barriers and took it straight back to the hotel.
We finally had the aircon turned on, or at least for a few hours, and went to bed laughing off the cultural shock of the first hours of Morocco.

Love A&E
P.S. Soz, no photos because it was all a bit much
