This morning we took the train to Bruges, a lovely old city not far from the coast of Belgium. It was sunny and mild and we probably couldn’t have picked a better day. We arrived and walked into town from the station, passing over canals and by great brick buildings.
Due to the wonderful weather, we decided that it would be rude not to have a picnic, so after doing some research and finding out about the magical marketplace that contained the best deli, fruit shop and bakery/patisserie, we headed straight there to choose our ingredients. Unfortunately after deciding of our meats and cheeses from the deli, we were told that they did not accept card (other than the local debit card, a theme in Belgium weirdly) we went on a wild goose chase to find an ATM. Turns out there are only a few in the entire city and they’re all basically in one place, the main square. So 45 minutes and a lovely walk through old town after, we were back at the deli, purchasing our goods.
On the walk we had come across a park and settled there with our food in the shade and ourselves in the sun. Some big friendly ducks made there rounds to every group of picnickers and took what food they could get. They make great duck noises and knew how to pull your heartstrings.

When we were totally full we took the same route into town as before and had a look around the Market Square. We decided to use the day to just wander around and explore the streets and canals of the city, stopping to go into churches or sit in parks.
