Ljubljana. August 16

Ash this morning awoke to a snap chat from Elise (who was already awake). It was a video of ants crawling all over our toothbrushes. Yes, we have an ant problem. Five minutes of panic later we recovered and got ready to go in search of food. FYI today was a Sunday, which we have learnt over the progression of this trip, means no food/anything open day. This is pretty annoying. Especially when you have a limited time in one place and it falls on a Sunday. Or if you're starving and there are literally no shops open anywhere. Luckily for us we found a bakery just near our place open and serving fresh bread. YAY.

We both then dedicated the morning to skyping our family and friends back home, something we are pretty bad at and do apologise for our lack of contact.

After this we headed into the city centre, as our apartment is a little beyond the central area. We had no idea what to expect, we'd heard it was beautiful and quaint but so far were yet to experience anything like that. But we found it. We found the amazing city everyone raves about and says you have to visit. It lies on a very small river with a pretty small castle overlooking the centre from a hill above. And the buildings are pastel and so so so cute. Also. The food and coffee here is on point. We accidentally stumbled upon the best coffee shop and got iced cappuccinos that were so crazy good and weird. The "froff" was like whipped milk, on top of delish coffee. After exploring the town we went to a traditional Slovenian restaurant for a very long lunch, to avoid the rain, of a goats cheese platter (oh my gosh) and mushroom gnocchi. Followed up by a traditional cake that was like layered with many things that we have mostly no idea. We think there were poppy seeds involved but who can be sure.

We returned back to our place to relax a little. It was a solid 10 degrees cooler here than we'd experienced in the past two weeks so we needed time to recover from our severe lack of sleep and loss of precious sweat/heatstroke.

Love,
A&E
