Prague. 29 July

This morning we met up with Andrew and Jeanette at their hotel and then all headed out to have an explore of the sights. We headed first for the Communist Museum which was pretty good and covered the effect communism had on Prague and the people of the Czech Republic, but also had an interesting exhibit featuring what is currently happening in North Korea under communist rule.
Our second task was to find a statue Elise had heard about, hidden in amongst the rooftops just out of the centre of the Old Town. It was pretty fun when we found it; please refer to hilarious photographs below. Good one everyone. A+.

We took a train to the other side of the river so we could visit Prague Castle. A&J had already been with their tour, but were kind enough to agree to come with us and share with us all the things they had learned. WHAT GOOD PARENTS/ParentsOfFriends’ ammirite????
I’m right.
So we got mini lost but it was okay because the garden we accidentally stumbled on was pretty good. It was filled with many ridiculous statues, a hideous grotto/spray concrete style wall and an aviary with very large owls. NICE.

So dripping

Eventually we found our way and climbed the many stairs up to the castle complex. In the end we didn’t go into many of the buildings, but it was pretty cool walking around the area. We also saw Mucha’s window in the cathedral, which made Elise super happy because the museum had closed the exhibition of the Slav Epic and she was super sad about it.

Mucha!

Natural amphitheatre

We had lunch in the café there and then when it started to rain, walked back down over the bridge to the main part of town again. We did get macrons on the way because such things are necessary.
After a bit more exploring we dropped into the Municipal House café for coffee. It is the most famous art nouveau building in Prague and is super elegant. We even had some live music courtesy of an in-house pianist to sip our coffee to.

Getting good luck

After coffee we all headed back to our Prague homes for a break and to get ready for our very special event.
We goin’ to the operaaaaaaa!
Yup. Don Giovanni no less.
So we prettied ourselves up to the best of our abilities and headed out into the rainy evening to meet A&J at the theatre. The opera was actually really enjoyable and the theatre itself was amazing. Although, we do admit that after the first act, everyone stood around Elise in the hallway to listen to the wiki plot overview, as none of us understood what was really going on. Not properly anyway. I mean, a 40 something year old was playing a teenager! So with a better idea of what we had just watched, we took our seats again, only to be asked to summarise what we had just learned to the Australian couple sitting next to us.
After the opera had finished we decided to take a midnight stroll though the city to experience Charles Bridge at night. It was super beautiful and we got about halfway across before we realised that no matter how lovely the moment was, our rumbling tummies and heavy eyelids weren’t going to hold out much longer.
We needed hot chips. And where better than the McDonalds in Wenceslas Square we ask you? So there we were in our finery, gobbling McDonalds fries at 12-something AM in Prague. Very good. Very us all.

And then we walked home. The End. (Of a super good day).

Lots of love,

A&E
