Athens. September 1

So we only had one day to explore everything Athens has to offer so we slept in. No jokes, we were tired, but  we didn't need the full day to explore anyway. So again, it was hot, and exploring ancient structures in the heat is never ideal, so we sweated but we managed to see all but one of the ruins.

The Ancient Greek ruins in Athens are spread all over the city but you only need one ticket to get into all, and they tear a different portion of your ticket off for each section. Like most people we began at the Acropolis, but as we found in Rome, there were minimal crowds or people (only actually at the Parthenon) otherwise it was pretty easy to navigate our way to all the sites. The Acropolis and Parthenon were of course incredible. We were both amazed by the Parthenon on top of the hill looking over Athens and spent some time here really taking in another famous sight we were finally seeing IRL.

More wedding scandalisedness

We gave into the crowds of cruise ship tourists and eventually descended and went to the next site of ruins, and gradually moved our way through 5 of the 6 areas spread across the city centre. We made a brief pit stop for authentic Greek froyo, which was v good. After some thorough walking and sight seeing we stopped in at the best souvlaki in Athens, a small shop that literally is just one man cooking chicken on skewers and then wrapping them as you pass him a couple of euros. It was so so so tasty. Incredibly basic though, with not much overwhelming filling, just delish chicken and crisp salad. Perfecccccctttt.

Following our late lunch we went for a wander through Athens, picking up some tasty baklava on the way for a late afternoon snack.

For dinner we went to a really well reviewed restaurant down the road from our place that was also so yum. We were on a food streak. We got moussaka and chicken grilled along with the classic Greek salad and loved every bit.

Much love,
A&E
