We took the bus to Oludeniz and chilled out at the pension for a little while, looking at what to do around the town. There wasn’t much other than to go to the beach and to paraglide, so we decided that for today, we would just go into the town of Hisaranu, which is kind of like the centre of Oludeniz that isn’t immediately by the beach. On our way out, the manager of the pension told us about a town called Kayakoy, which turned out to be the ‘ghost town’ we had heard about on the boat and didn’t get to go to with the group. So we found out how to get there and decided we would check it out after lunch.
We had a look around a marketplace and the got some burgers while listening to 90’s classics, which was a dream of course.
We took the bus to Kayakoy and climbed the hill up to the extensive area of ruins. The majority of the ruins were houses, but the was also a cool church which was technically off limits, but Elise (Ash was too chicken) may have climbed a wall and had a sneaky look inside. It was definitely worth it.
To explain, the town was abandoned in 1923 when the Greco-Turkish population exchange took place and the Greek Orthodox townspeople were ‘returned’ to Greece. Actually, to those who have seen ‘The Water Diviner’, in fact checking this, we found out that some of the final scenes were filmed here, so you might recognise it?
Elise being brave |
Ash being half brave (she descended) |
That hair flick tho |
We got back in the afternoon and didn’t really feel like dinner as out lunch had been quite late, so we got some chips and sat by the pool reading some magazines.
Love A&E
