Selcuk (Ephesus). October 1

We woke up and attempted to organise flights home, which finally, after many weeks, we were able to find some that kind of fit our plans. We then enjoyed a very good breakfast involving much bread and cooked eggs and cheese pastries. Yum.

Shortly after breakfast we were driven by the guesthouse owner to Ephesus, the ruins are not too far out of Selcuk. The ruins were initially an Ancient Greek city built 10 BC. It then came under Roman control in 129 BC. It is known as formerly having one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the Temple of Artemis, which was completed around 550BC, but it was destroyed or damaged in 268 AD. It is now represented by one column that is barely noticeable. For the better part of the day we explored these ruins, seeing the terrace houses, with really cool and remarkably pretty intact tiling and mosaics, and also the library the ruins are well known for. The ruins were extensive and we covered most of it, but by the end we were ruined out.

So rebel though

We went back to Selcuk by shuttle bus again and spent the afternoon relaxing before going to the restaurant run by our guesthouse owner again.

Love,
A&E
