Today we embarked on another day trip from Florence, this time to Siena. It was a pretty bad day weather wise, so wet and rainy but this didn't impact much on our trip, we managed to dodge most downfalls. Arriving at Siena train station, we had to exit to the city centre the most convoluted way possible. So we first had to cross the road to a shopping centre, go to the top level, then catch a series of maybe 7 escalators up the hill. Upon reaching the top, we had to walk to walls of Siena then enter. We walked down through the town in search of a coffee shop Elise had previously been to. We managed to find it just in time to avoid a huge downfall of rain. Here we enjoyed warming coffee and cakes- a weird coffee cream one that was so tasty and also a slice of chocolate and nut panforte. After the rain subsided we kept walking, heading to the main piazza. We got some shots then went on a Siena discovery tour, led by our bad directioning skills. This was pretty ideal though, we saw many beautiful laneways and streets and found a lovely restaurant for lunch. We both enjoyed a midday chianti and incredible gnocchi with parmesan and salsiccia. Mmmmmm. The room we were in was also underground and we briefly experienced a total blackout which was a bit of fun.

Heading out we had luckily missed another rain episode and went to queue for tickets to go into the cathedral. We waited for a pretty long time but it was worth it, the interior was amazing and pretty epic.

Back in Florence |
Following this we headed back to main square and enjoyed some gelato, yes please. We then headed back the epically long way (could they put in anymore escalators?!) back to the train station to return to Florence.
Back in Florence we had another feast with bread and pesto and cheese and yummmmsss.
Much love,
A&E
