Paros to Santorini. September 5

This morning we were off to Santorini! On the way to the ferry we got some breakfast (and baklava for the road) from the local bakery then sweltered waiting for everyone to exit the ferry so we could board.

Another riveting ferry ride and we got to Santorini! We then had to catch a bus from the port to Perissa beach, where we are staying. It's on the other side of the island from the main tourist area but is well known for its black volcanic sand beaches. We found our hotel, dropped our stuff (after waiting for ages for hotel staff to appear) then wandered the streets. So on first appearances the town seemed small and slightly disappointing, but not so! It's actually really quite big and extends along a longgggg promenade along the beach.

We stopped off for a quick lunch of gyros (always an excellent choice) and got spicy cheese dip (FYI- dream combo of chilli and Persian feta) and then got some ice cream to top it off. Yum.

We wandered along the promenade checking out all the restaurants and beach spots for the next day. That night we sat on our balcony and drank wine and took in the lovely view before deciding very last minute to catch a bus to the main town on the island, Fira, to see what the nightlife was all about. Note: nightlife is dead. Maybe it was offseason, maybe it was just lame, but we still made the most of it and had a pretty fun night with some New Zealand girls we met! We caught a taxi back a few hours later and had a solid sleep.
