We caught a train today from Florence to La Spezia, to then board a very busy train to Manarola. Manarola is the second town of the five towns that reside on the cliff side in the region called Cinque Terre. We both agree now that Manarola is also the best town out of the five. Arriving in town, we had the very difficult task of getting to our accommodation. It was pretty much up two flights of very very steep and uneven stairs, that was apparently a lane way. No thanks. But we had no choice and after struggsing just to get to this point we hauled our luggage up, cursing the world the whole way. Reaching the top wasn't so bad though as we were greeted by our host and her young daughter. We are staying in basically the best place ever. So not only is the location ideal, like more than ideal, but we are staying in a lovely home with a lovely family, in their downstairs spare room with our own bathroom. When we came in and dropped our luggage, the hosts made us coffee and sat chatting to us for maybe an hour, explaining all the things we should do, where were the best places to eat etc. They were also really interested in our trip, which was so nice to tell them about everything we'd done and seen.

The climbing feels |
After unpacking a little we headed straight to the water, around from the main swimming spot was another more closed off area. We went straight into the water, our first coastal dip in the whole trip! The water was so nice, not too rough and not too cold. Unfortunately Elise got stung by a jellyfish, but luckily it wasn't poisonous and she was okay. We then sun bathed on the rocks for a bit before heading back to our place to get changed and then go to dinner.

We went to a restaurant that was at the top of the town and recommended to us by the hosts. Sadly they told us they were fully booked, but they couldn't say no to our charms (disclaimer: we aren't actually charming). We luckily got a table and enjoyed some very tasty food and wine. Ash's was the best pasta she's ever had. Yep that good. After dinner we went back to our place, struggling to climb the giant staircase along the way, and headed to sleep to prepare for our 'hike' the next day.
Much love,
A&E
