Istanbul. September 13

Today the local market was literally down the street from us. We had heard there would be one on but were unsure of where it would be. Our host kept saying 'you'll see it' but we were like, all the streets are so windy and hilly and confusing! But they were right, it was literally right there. We spent considerable time walking through the market, which was selling fresh produce, with vegetables we thought we would never see in Turkey. We're talking broccoli, cauliflower and soooo much more. The market seemed to go on for ages and once we got to the end we went back the way we came to go find our new local. Our new local is a coffee shop in the neighbourhood of Pera and serves flat whites. We know, amazing.

We spent most of the afternoon relaxing on the terrace of the coffee shop, drinking flat whites and eating cheesecake, pretty ideal. It's also a really good spot to people watch because the neighbourhood is full of cool, fashionable people who are very interesting to watch. In a non-creepy way we assure you.

We went to a local pide place for dinner, which is basically a Turkish pizza, kind of a folded dough base with different toppings. Ours had cheese and diced meat and was pretty tasty (nothing on Italian pizza, but still good). Sufficiently full we headed home, which we took a slight detour and ended up taking a bit longer than the 5 minutes it took us to actually get there.

Much love,
A&E
